Kevin Beatty and Brad Byrnes with Minister Kristy McBain MP in Canberra last week.

Canberra Trip For Mayor And GM: Mayor Kevin Beatty and General Manager Brad Byrnes met with Minister Kristy McBain MP, Minister for Emergency Management and Minister for Regional Development, Local Government and Territories in Canberra last week. The Mayor spoke with the Minister about our 2022 flood recovery. Particularly highlighting the need to quicken the roll-out of the Resilient Housing Program, the need for a Resilient Lands Program to support new land development in our LGA, and the need for a financial support package for small businesses impacted by the floods. The recovery from the flood event has taken too long, but Council is continuing to ensure that both Federal and NSW Governments understand that the recovery in Cabonne is not done.

Correction: Last week in the Canowindra Phoenix Issue 835, we reported that Canowindra Connections Centre and Western NSW Primary Health Network are working together on a social prescribing program called ‘Staying Well Connected’, tackling social isolation for older people in our community. We should also have reported that LiveUp is a partner providing resources and support for the program which is being rolled out across five towns in the Central West.

Now Is The Time To Volunteer: Two important Annual General Meetings (AGMs) are coming up in Canowindra, offering a great opportunity for locals to get involved and make a difference in their community. The Canowindra Progress Association will be holding its AGM on 18 August and is encouraging community-minded individuals to join the committee and help drive positive change in the town. A commitment of around 15 to 20 hours throughout the year is asked of volunteers. The Canowindra Challenge Incorporated, is also calling for new committee members at its AGM on 7 August.

Both groups rely on dedicated volunteers to continue, and fresh ideas and energy are always welcome. Whether you’re passionate about community development, tourism or the growth of Canowindra, volunteering your time and skills can make a real impact. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Join The Team: Cabonne Council is currently recruiting for the following positions:

• Casual Age of Fishes Museum Tourism Officer – Canowindra, closes 13 July

• Assets & Systems Officer – Cudal, closes 6 July

• Creditors Officer – Molong, closes 6 July
