Canowindra juniors went down to a strong Warriors team 28–12. The young Tigers started well but trailed 6-0 early and were on the attack, but unfortunately the Warriors centre intercepted the final pass to run away and score of the post to lead 12 nil. The Warriors ran in more tries to lead 24 nil. The Tigers rallied late in the half to score two tries to trail 24-10.
The second half saw a much improved performance from the Tigers kicking a penalty in the 43rd minute, closing out to 12 points. A number of times the Tigers looked dangerous but just couldn’t quite finish off their moves mostly due to some good defence from the opposition. It wasn’t until the 50th minute the Warriors sealed the game with a try.
Darius Carpenter had his best game of the year receiving point and players player.
The young Tigers just need to improve on their defence and no doubt will give some signs of shake the rest of the year.
The Tigeresses played Oberon in a super game and the score didn’t really indicate the effort from the improving Oberon side.
Laura Price opened the scoring to lead 6-0 and it wasn’t until just before half time that the Tigeresses scored again to lead 12-0.
Oberon scored to make it 12-4 but the class of the Tigeresses shone through with three tries late in the half to run out winners 26-4.
In first grade, it was a game of two halves with Oberon side scoring three tries in the first half to post a lead of 18 points nil. The Tigers couldn’t hold possession of the ball and many times had some promising attacking moves only for the ball to find a ground and give over possession.
The second half was a much improved performance from the Tigers scoring three tries and one exceptional try where Bailey Kennedy caught the ball above his head and got the ball down. Two of these were converted and the Tigers trailed 18-16 with 16 minutes remaining in the game. Tigers had their chances but failed to capitalise on these. Caylis Dunn received points and old boys player of the day.
This week is a general bye for rep footy.
