1,000 Bikes Against Domestic Violence

9 April, 2025 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

Organiser of the 1,000 Bikes Against Domestic Violence Ride, Grant Nicholson pictured with Tony Ticehurst, father of the late Molly Ticehurst.

Led by Forbes’ Grant Nicholson, the Central West Riders are rallying for 1,000 bikes at Parliament House on April 11, calling for tougher bail laws and stronger protections for victims. With a Federal election looming, Nicholson hopes the roar of engines will send a message that real change is needed.

The ride will depart Forbes on Friday 11 April at 8:30am from Bunnings. Riders from Dubbo, Wagga, Sydney, Canberra, and beyond are expected to join, proving this is an issue that resonates nationwide. The event has gained momentum, with people offering support through t-shirts, posters, and videos. Nicholson reminds everyone that bikers might look tough, but at heart, they’re just people who care.

The ride was inspired by the tragic loss of beloved Forbes woman Molly Ticehurst to domestic violence last year. Molly was the 30th woman killed in 2024 and her family and community are still fighting for her and so many others lost to violence. Poignantly, the 1,000 Bikes Against DV rally will be held on the day before Molly’s birthday.

When speaking of the ride, Grant Nichlson, said: “We want as many bikes, bikers, men and women to meet at parliament house to show our disgust in the lack of action by our leaders to combat DV in our communities. Let’s be loud and peaceful in our attempt to show society we won’t tolerate this!”On the day, 117 red hearts will be laid on the lawn of Parliament House to represent the 117 women lost in the last 12 months to domestic violence. Members of the crowd will be asked to take one of 117 white carnations and stand behind a red heart, the last carnation being carried by Nate who is Molly’s young son. Nate will carry Molly’s heart with her flower, during 117 seconds of silence.

Riders will meet at the general assembly point at the front of Parliament House Canberra at 1pm and the rally will run from 2pm – 3.30pm. All riders are welcome to join and riders are invited to wear a white ribbon in support of ending domestic violence.
