Saturday Nights Live In The Lounge

2 April, 2025 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

Canowindra Bowling Club’s Saturday Night – Live in the Lounge is back this Saturday, 5 April with Cowra local Emily Reynolds.

Growing up obsessed with Taylor Swift, ‘Swifty’ Emily began singing again after a long break two years ago when she was asked to do backing vocals on a studio album. “While I was there, I felt inspired by music again. I met many musicians and amazing people who encouraged me and gave me the confidence to pick it back up,” said Emily of her inspiration to take up the mic and guitar again.

Asked about her favourite songs that get the crowd going she replied, “I try to include requests, with hits like “Zombie” by The Cranberries or classics like “Jolene.”

Personally, I love performing “Riptide” by Vance. My sets typically feature easy-listening music where people can appreciate the vocals, sing along, and enjoy a cold drink.”

Passionate about performing at retirement homes, and with research showing the many benefits of music and dementia, it is very close to Emily’s heart. “My grandfather has dementia. Sometimes it’s bittersweet because songs are so closely tied to personal memories for the residents, but I think that’s a beautiful aspect of music.”

“You never know what memories a song from their youth might bring back. It’s heartwarming to see someone close their eyes, sing along, or sway to the music. When I first started, I went around and asked for the resident’s favourite songs and wrote them down to learn. I play them songs from artists like Elvis Presley, Bill Withers, John Denver, Cliff Richard, and The Beatles.”

We look forward to Emily performing for us at the Canowindra Bowling Club. Enjoy dinner from the Chinese Restaurant and settle in for a great evening of free live music, no bookings required. If you are in town, grab the courtesy bus as your Plan B.
