Lachy Rice is going from strength-to-strength on the Woodchopping stage, under the guidance of World Champion Brad Delosa.
Lachy recently won the Eugowra show 300mm Underhand HC, following it up by winning the underhand at Bribaree show against a strong field of competitors from competitors from Canberra, Sydney and West Wyalong. In addition to prize money, Lachy won a New Engineered For Axeman Axe valued at close to $1,000 for his efforts.
Younger brother Alex also chopped and the two boys have started racing in the two- man Sawing competitions Two weekends ago, woodchopping saw the Rice boys at Lithgow, competing at the Donnybrook Woodchopping competition held on Saturday, 12th October where Lachy placed second in the 300mm underhand, in wet cold conditions.
The axe action continued last weekend at the Karuah Timber Festival near Newcastle.
Lachy won the 300mm underhand HC final, Alex won the junior underhand chop, and both boys gained a 4th place in the double handed Sawing competition. The next day saw a small drive south to the Morriset show where Lachy won the 325mm underhand and the junior underhand, and placed second in the 275mm UH.
This weekend the boys will be competing closer to home at the Carcoar show, kicking off with a woodchop at the pub on Friday night from 4.30pm and then at the showground on Saturday.
The boys will then have a rest from chopping, needing to focus on athletics after both gained silver medals at the recent NSW Allschools Championships at Homebush.
They will now represent NSW at the Nationals in Brisbane in December, Lachy in the Triple Jump and Alex in the Hammer Throw.
