Canowindra’s Emma Grey has been named on the Australian women’s team to compete at the IAU (International Association of Ultra Runners) 100km World Championships to be held Bengaluru, India, on 7th December, 2024.
Speaking on her achievement, Emma said: “I’m incredibly excited and grateful for the opportunity to represent Australia in the world champs. We have a really strong female team this year and I’m looking forward to getting stuck into a big training block so that I can compete to the best of my ability and hopefully contribute to a great result for the Aussies.”
The inaugural IAU 100km World Championships event took place in Torhout, Belgium in 1987 and became an annual event, with the exception of 2013 when the event was cancelled, until 2022 in Berlin, Germany when it became a biannuaI event.
The Australian team is selected by the Australian Ultra and Trail Runners Association, or AUTRA for short, and to be considered for selection, qualifying standards must be met. Historically, the primary standard for women has been sub 8:30 A grade qualifiers, 8:50 for B grade and 9:10 for C grade.
Emma came to running during Covid lockdown to help cope with the overwhelming job of home schooling, remote working and parenting and to give herself some time for her. Emma started by running around her property and then discovered parkrun.
Since then Emma has run at numerous events, gotten a coach and has been on the race podium. We wish Emma the best of luck on her next challenge in India!
