Two Tigers Teams Headed For Grand Final

21 August, 2024 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

The final game for the season for the Under 12 Py-Pies (Canowindra/Molong) was played under lights at Tom Clyburn Oval last Friday night.

Canowindra’s first grade side and the Canowindra Tigeresses both advance to the grand final after impressive wins on the weekend. The league tag game was very intense in the slippery conditions with the Tigresses winning six points to four and the first grade running out winners 30 to 26.

The first grade game was very entertaining, with a lot of physical contact and skilful attack. Both sides put on a show for the huge crowd in attendance. The Tigers went to an early lead of 10 points to nil until Cowra was awarded possible eight point try and Ricky Whitten converted and kicked the penalty in front to narrow the gap to 108. At this moment the Tigers lost a player for 10 minutes in the bin but held their composure to score a try.

Tigers were leading 16-8 with only minutes left in the half they had to hold Cowra out with great defence for four sets of six for this to be the half time score.

After constant pressure from the Tigers Rob Burn dived over and Bailey Kennedy converted to lead 22-8. Cowra fought back

with a converted try with scores narrowing to 28-16 after Zac Hunt scored his third try to stretch the lead to 28-14 with 15 minutes remaining. Cowra had a player sent off and Canowindra had one in the bin so both sides had 12 players each for most of the remaining time.

The Cowra hooker scored a try which was converted to stage an exciting finish to the match with the scores at 28-20.

Logan Harris score next to the post with the Kennedy converting for a comfortable lead of 32-20. A loose pass saw Cowra take an intercept to score to take the final score 32-26.

All roads will ead to Peak Hill next Sunday 25th August for the Woodbridge Cup Grand Final Day 2024, hosted by Peak Hill Roosters at Linder Oval Peak Hill.
