Men’s Bowls

17 July, 2024 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

It was great to see so many bowlers on the green on the weekend. There were some great performances and what one would say a couple of upset results.

In O’Brien Cup, newcomer’s Mitch McAllister and Bob Cann defeated Phil and Margo Lees. In the other O’Brien Cup match Roger and Eryn defeated Dool and Leanne in an entertaining match. Roger and Eryn were behind earlier in the game and held on to slender lead after getting to lead midway through.

In Consistency Greg Chester had a close game and victory over Tony Tuimauga.

Tony caught up the handicap at 105 each, only for Greg to pull away again to win.

Crowey and Cristy defeated Marc and Garry in a close game.

On Sunday the excellent games continued with Teddy and Jamie too strong for Barney and Toby. In the consistency match Ben had a comfortable win over giant killer Bob Cann. Thanks for marking Tony.

In Major Triples matches Jack, Harry and

Cristy proved too strong for Tot Michael and Crock (sub). Jack being the difference drawing crucial shots throughout the match.

Phil, Brent Lees and Brad had close win over last year’s winners Dool, Peter and Westy. It is good to see Westy back playing bowls. Players showed great character playing through a shower in the afternoon making conditions very cool.

Matches for the weekend are:

Saturday at 1pm: O’Brien Cup

• Mick T and Crock v Sparky and Brad B

Sunday at 1pm: Consistency Singles

• Mick T v Crock, marker Harry

• Crowey v Brad B, marker Ben

• Teddy v John C, marker Nigel

• Dool v Gary F, marker Roger

Don’t forget Thursday afternoon social bowls. Badge draws for this week are Wednesday $550, Friday $700 and Sunday $250. Please remember to renew membership as updated numbers apply on or after 1st August for badge draws.

Join the tigers home game against Molong on Sunday.
