The Canowindra High School open girls squash team of Emily Thomas, Lillian Harrison, Scout Stacey and Elsey Watson recently travelled to Dunedoo to play in the quarter finals.
The day began early with a 7am start, which was not the easiest after Rural Cup being on the previous day. A breakfast stop at Maccas made the long trip worthwhile and provided the needed energy for the upcoming games.
Emily’s hours of training showed as she started the team off with a 3-0 win over her opponent. Lillian was next on the court. Her serves were on-point and set her up for a 3-0 win. The team had set themselves up nicely and only needed to win one more game from the next 6 to clinch the victory.
Scout took on Dunedoo’s 2nd seed (who had just been called into the Western team) and played her best games so far but was beaten 0-3 in some close games.
Elsey knew her assignment – and after a slow start, she came out firing in the sec ond game to win and secure the win for the team.
The team now travel to Parkes this month to compete in the Western finals.
