Canowindra’s hammer thrower Emily Thomas has been chosen to represent the Regional Australia Team in the Open Hammer at the Oceania Games in Fiji in June.
Following her recent success at the Australian Athletics Championships in Adelaide, local girl Emily Thomas has been selected on the Australian team heading to the Oceania Games being held in Fiji from 1st to 9th June.
Seventeen year old Emily will be competing in the Women’s Open Division hammer throw under the guidance of coach Ernie Shankelton.
Despite being selected to represent Australia, Emily’s participation in the Oceania Games is not Government assisted and is at the expense of the athlete.
Last Friday, 3rd May the Canowindra Services Club stepped up to show their support of our home-grown champion, presenting Emily with $2,000 from the Services Club and a further $1,300 raised from meat raffles and community support on Anzac Day.
Canowindra Services Club Chairman, Tom Beath said: “Over the past two years The Canowindra Services Club has proudly sponsored Emily, helping out with her costs to attend competitions all over Australia, resulting in her breaking records and now competing in the Womans Opens Division for Australia.”
