Men’s Bowls

1 May, 2024 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

Last weekend saw the final of the Major Singles, with David Crowe surviving a good challenge from Tony Tuimauga. David held an early lead and then Tony caught up and took the lead. David had the best in the later stages, with some excellent draw bowls, coming away with the win 25/14. It was great to see so many people there to watch an excellent game.

There was also a major pairs match between Dool and Peter Vs Larry and Crock. The match early could have went either way, with both teams trying to get the upper hand. Larry and Crock got stuck on 7 for a long time enabling Dool and Peter to go on to win comfortably.

The sevens had their fourth round match against Cowra and unfortunately couldn’t handle the pace of the green. Cowra are now in an unbeaten position in the sectional play.We wish Cowra all the best in the playoffs.

The sixes are at home on Saturday 4th May at 11am against Oberon and only have to win a rink to progress to the playoffs on the 18th-19th May at a venue to be decided after all rounds have been completed. The following players are selected for the match:

• Warren Fisher, Alan Wyburn, Roger Traves, David Beath.

• Ben Rooke, Phillip Lees, David Crowe, Brent Lees.

• Tony Tuimauga, David Webb, Arthur Robson, Matthew Lawrence.

The sevens are playing Woodstock on Sunday 5th May at 11am to complete their round in the section. The sevens have performed well with several new bowlers playing this season. The following players are selected for the match:

• Leanne West, Greg Chester, Brian McClintock, Michael Traves.

• John Cousin, Nigel Knight, Brad Bourke, Jack Webb.

• Larry Nunn, David Watt, Caine rooke, Marc Stevens.

We had several visitors over the weekend and thank you for attending the club, playing bowls or enjoying the club activities. Congratulations to all the organisers of all the events over the week, tremendous effort from all concerned.

Badge draws this week are Wednesday $250, Friday $300 and Sunday $250.
