The inaugural ‘Welcome To Canowindra Street Party’ and BBQ Masters Competition has been hailed a sizzling success, attracting a huge crowd with live music, amazing lighting, eclectic market stalls and great food.
The event hosted by The Canowindra Progress Association, was held in Gaskill Street on Saturday 20th April to welcome balloonists and their crews to our town.
Food was supplied by the Canowindra Branch of the CWA, The Masonic Lodge and The Lions Club, all selling out of their salads and barbequed delicacies.
The BBQ Competition was an absolute hit, attracting contestants from Canowindra, Cowra, Parkes, Forbes, Orange, Sydney and even one from Hong Kong.
Judged by Vanessa Harcourt, Chef at NSW Parliament House, and Tim Steell from Bull ‘n’ Smoke, the contestants served up a close competition through multiple rounds of cooking including a hamburger round, Wagyu, lamb rack and butterfly chicken, among other popular cuts of meat for the BBQ.
The winners of the rounds were then announced for the final where a “Mystery BBQ Meat” was presented to cook, which was the Tomahawk. Jesse from Cowra took out top spot, and local Canowindra High School student, James Roberts came in third. The Canowindra Progress Association would like to extend a very special thanks and appreciation to Canowindra Butchery for their work and efforts for this year’s street party. The superb meat was all supplied by Canowindra Butchery who were involved in the competition from the first concept. They also generously donated all the prizes for the competition. Tom Beath, President of The Canowindra Progress Association, was instrumental in gaining sponsorships from businesses to help with putting on the Street Party. Without the support of businesses and associations, these events for Canowindra would not be able to happen.
