Have you ever thought “I don’t cook so CWA is not for me”? Well, in CWA cooking is just one of many aspects.
From a local point of view, our branch does catering and cooking – mostly as a community service, but we also organise the Schools’ International competition for four schools, help with the regional Public Speaking competition for children from Year 3 to Year 12 ( both as judges or volunteers), have craft and community friendship morning teas and help where needed.
On a State level CWA has been the cause of those wonderful white lines on the side of roads that are great at night or when foggy, lobbied the government to install flashing lights at school and rail crossings and are involved with support for women and children in rural and remote areas, just to name a few.
Each year CWA of NSW give education grants to country children and university students. In fact in 2023 over $67,000 was granted.
The State International fund has supported Tonga after the tsunami as well as supplying aid around the South Pacific area.
After the devastating floods in 2022 CWA gave monetary help from the Disaster fund to most affected places. Our members were on the ground giving support and help wherever they could.
We now have bookable co working spaces called “Nurture” available at our hall with internet access, AV facilities and private working spaces.
Most of all CWA is about friendship and community.
So we are “not just tea and scones”. Why not come along and try us out. We meet at the CWA Hall in Blatchford Street on the fourth Thursday of the month at 6.30pm for a light meal, a catch up followed by our meeting.
