From 8th to 10th December, Central West Throwers (CWT) had five competitors vying for medals the 2023 Australian All Schools Championships in Perth, Western Australia.
Day one saw Cooper Dubin from Young compete in the U15’S Hammer Throw bringing home the Gold Medal with a throw of 49.95 metres. Mia Zasiadczyk from Canberra finished fourth in the U16’S Hammer Throw having a great competition throwing 45.75 metres.
On day two, Cowra athlete Ky Garratt secured back to back medals at the 2023 All Schools Nationals taking the win with a throw of 59.60 meters in the U17 Boys Hammer Throw. Next up was Canowindra’s Emily Thomas, competing in the U18 Hammer Throw. She came fourth with 52.30 metres which was a 2 metre personal best. It was an exciting event with Emily’s last throw in the competition putting her into 3rd position, but then next up was the Victorian who pipped Em for 3rd throwing 53 metres. Canberra’s Zoe Kong who is only new to the CWT finished 6th in the under U18 Hammer Throw with a personal best.
It was a great success for such a small group from the Central West and surrounds with those who competed all finishing in the top six in their events. Coach Ernie Shankelton is very proud of his athletes!
