Community groups and not-for-profit organisations in Western and Far West NSW can now apply for funding to support rural communities that have been affected by recent natural disasters.
Grants will be awarded to community groups or organisations seeking to facilitate community-led and focused wellbeing initiatives to help improve mental health and build community resilience across the region.
Western NSW Primary Health Network (WNSW PHN) Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Coe, says WNSW PHN is committed to providing much-needed support to those affected by the floods in the Central West nearly one year ago.
“We know it takes many years to rebuild a community – physically, mentally and emotionally – following a disastrous event like the flooding 12 months ago, so support must be ongoing,” said Mr Coe.
“These community wellbeing grants are available now so that support can continue for those communities that were hit hard by the disaster.”
Funded by the NSW Government as part of the Central West Mental Health and Wellbeing Flood Recovery Package, the grants will be delivered by WNSW PHN to help communities recover from flood impacts and strengthen their capacity to meet future challenges.
“WNSW PHN is seeking to fund activities and initiatives that support community-led wellbeing,” Mr Coe said.
The focus of these grants is on supporting young people, older residents and Aboriginal communities, however all not-for-profit organisations within the WNSW PHN region are encouraged to apply, and all applications will be considered.
The grant activities must be conducted in, and support, WNSW PHN flood-affected regions, with priority given to the flood-impacted communities of Eugowra, Parkes, Forbes, Molong and Canowindra.
