Men’s Bowls

11 October, 2023 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

What a great weekend of bowling. Another final completed, and O’Brien Cup up to the semis.

Games commenced on Thursday evening with Roger Traves and Eryn Traves-Kinsela playing Brent Lees and Caine Rooke. There were some great bowl’s with Roger and Eryn taking an early lead. Brent and Caine fought back to level the score 24/24 on the last end. On the extra end, Brent and Caine secured a win after a very tight measure.

On Friday Brent Lees and Caine Rooke backed up to play Mathew Lawrence and Maddie Lees. Scores were fairly even early with Mathew and Maddie holding onto their three shot advantage. On the fourth last end Mathew picked up the kitty taking it back to Maddie bowls for four shots and a big lead. Brent and Caine won the next three ends unable to bridge the margin. 29/26 final score.

Another O’Brien Cup match on Saturday saw Ben Rooke and Brian McClintock team up to play Richard Fitzgerald and Dool Beath. Ben and Brian’s good form continued to win in a close battle 27/25 .

On Sunday we had the final of the Consistency singles match with regular teammates doing battle, Allen Wyburn against David Crowe. Both players enjoyed the fast greens and great bowls on display. Westy had a good break on the scoreboard and went on to win 152/138.

It was great to see all of these games supported by good following on the sidelines.

THE Mixed Pairs has been extended for one week. The new closing day is on Friday 13th October with the first game to be played on Wednesday 18th October.

We had a great roll up for the first night of twilight bowls with 12 players. Winners were Bruce Wright and Brad Bourke. A BBQ followed the bowls, with all players enjoying the night.

Thursday afternoon bowls also had a good attendance and the jackpot is now well over $400. The Friday badge draw went off and is now back to $200, the Wednesday draw is $150 and Sunday draw $500.

No games drawn this weekend due to non availability of players. Social bowls will be played on Saturday, get a group together and have a fun weekend, bowls available at club.

The AGM of the Canowindra Community Bowls and Recreation Club is on Sunday at 1pm.
