A celebration of over 100 years of Freemasonary in Canowindra NSW is taking place on 21st October, at the Canowindra Services Club. The event is a formal dress fundraiser, supporting the educational charity – A Start in Life. Tickets for the event include a three course dinner with drinks to be purchased at the Club.
The main Guest Speaker for the night is Mr Neil Robinson, CEO of an Australian educational charity, A Start in Life. A Start in Life began 100 years ago as a Masonic Project called the NSW Masonic Schools Welfare Fund. They are a small Australian charity which has supported young Australians to improve their educational outcomes and access an education equal to that of their peers.
Musical entertainment will be provided throughout the night by the talented Chris Hodder. Chris is an Australian Army Veteran and a proud supporter of Integra Service Dogs Australia. Integra Service Dogs Australia works with Veterans and First Responders and their families suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) by enriching lives through highly trained Labrador assistance dogs.
The Lodge Canowindra will be supporting these two charities through the ticket sales from the dinner.
The Masons formed in Canowindra in the early 1920’s and formalised their meeting place by building the current Lodge premises in Blatchford Street, Canowindra in 1923.
At that time, the members were 100 strong. The Lodge is a male fraternity and currently the numbers aren’t at the same level, however the charity organisation always welcomes interest and new members with community charity focus.
The Freemasons Lodge meet on a monthly basis for the sole purpose of supporting the community in various ways. They are a group that are not in it for the accolades, however work behind the scenes to give in various ways. From donating money to the CEF for education, to assisting the elderly in the community or even purchasing furniture for a family in need, the Lodge in Canowindra has helped many people over its 100 years.
