Last weekend saw the start of the 2023 NSW All schools Championships, with the CWT coming away with some great results. Athletes placing either first or second will qualify for the National All Schools championships to be held in Perth in December.
2023 was the first time primary school athletes could compete in the championships with Savannah Auvaa from Bathurst winning two gold medals in the 11 yrs girls shot put (12.37m) and discus ( 31.38m).
Ky Garratt (Cowra) competed in the 5kg u16 hammer throw taking home the gold medal with a personal best throw of 61.57m, Ky now qualifies for Perth.
Canowindra High School had two students enter with both coming home with medals. Lila McCaffery finished with the bronze medal in the 16 yrs 3kg girls hammer throw.In the girls 17 yrs 3kg hammer throw, Emily Thomas was competing against a nemesis who kept beating her by a few metres. But on Sunday, Emily threw a personal best (50.56m) and was beaten for the gold by only 5 centimetres.
We would just like to thank coach Ernie Shankelton for his time that he puts into coaching our young athletes. We are so lucky to have a coach of his calibre to mentor the CWT, Ernie has athletes from all over NSW come to Canowindra to be coached in hammer, discus, shot put and javlin.
