Canowindra High School’s first venture into a garage sale and markets fund-raising event went off in a big way on Sunday attracting hundreds of visitors and more than 30 stalls including some from Moorbel.
Among them, one of the regular stalwarts of the Moorbel markets, Daphne Cooper from Cargo and her colourful display of knitted items. “I knit every day,” she told the Phoenix. “Sometimes all day if the weather’s wet.”
At the other end of the market experience, schoolgirls Laura Flannery and Georgie Fisher did well selling a very professional range of decorated greetings cards which they’d made themselves.
But that was only a tiny part of the vast range of goods on sale – everything from toys, to homewares, to cake and preserves, to old garden tools.
In all, the sale raised $1,800 for the school – a great effort.
However, a secondary sale went on at the same time, this organised by faculty members selling off equipment and other items, no longer used, that had been hanging around in storage for two decades or more. The proceeds from that sale went into their own faculty budgets.
All in all, it was a triumph for everyone involved, especially the teachers.
As one commented later: “A lot of people were able to see for themselves what a very nice school, we have.”
