The community is welcome to celebrate public education at the Canowindra Public School Open Day on Friday, 4th August as part of Education Week celebrations.
Parents and carers are encouraged to visit their children’s classroom to share their learning journey and achievements. Classrooms will be open from 12.15pm to 1pm. The students have been very busy preparing their classroom displays in preparation for the open day celebrations.
Families are invited to stay and enjoy lunch with their children in the school grounds after the classroom visits.
The day will also feature the official opening of two of the schools’ major projects, the paver path and mural.
The paver path was a P&C initiative that features pavers engraved with the names of many current, and past students of Canowindra Public School. The paver fundraiser began immediately following COVID lockdown in 2020. The project provided a way for the P&C to continue their fundraising activities and keep the P&C active in the school community, in a COVID-safe manner.
By May 2021, the P&C had sold in excess of $8,000 worth of pavers. The path was completed in 2023. If you purchased a paver, be sure to head along to the open day to see if you locate it in the path.
The second project being unveiled on the open day will be the mural painted by Sue Hodge, as a gift to the school from the 2021 and 2022 Year 6 students. Painted during term 4 of 2022, the mural is a bright, cheerful addition to the school yard, and holds many secret details for the students to find and count. Sue Hodge, will be there on the day for the unveiling of the mural.
This year marks 175 years of Public Education, and will be celebrated across the region in our public schools. We wish all the public schools in our area a very happy Education Week!
