The 2023 winner of the Henry Lawson Festival of Arts painting section, Canowindra’s Sue Hodge is exhibiting at Rosnay Organic Wines. The exhibition opening is on Saturday 5th August commencing at 6pm.
Sue will be exhibiting her recent work featuring iconic Central West landscapes and structures. “A lot of people enjoy the quirkiness of these paintings as they bend the rules and tell stories of life in our region,” says Sue.
“There is a lot happening that goes unnoticed as we pass through the day that I’ve tried to capture in my work. Simple things such as conversations, couples holding hands, walking the dog, working the land and so on. These are the stories going on around the main feature. For some paintings you will have to spend a little time to take it all in.”
One thing that stands out with Sue’s art work is her use of colour. Bright and bold colours reflect her personality. Movement and activity in her work are an extension of her constant industriousness.
When asked what motivates her, she offers a knowing smile, “I love life. I love the beauty and creativity all around me. In enjoying and appreciating the colours and shapes I see, my imagination starts to run wild with what I could do with them. Perhaps most of all I enjoy seeing people enjoy my art.”
Sue will be at Rosnay Cellar Door from Saturday morning painting ‘plein air’ (in the open air). The work she produces will be offered as a lucky door prize at the exhibition opening. “It may need a few finishing touches, but someone will win a Sue Hodge original on the night, so come on out and enjoy the evening,” says Sue.
