Canowindra Pythons Rugby Union – Bush To Beach Round

12 July, 2023 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

Canowindra Pythons were unable to beat Molong at the Bush to Beach round however showed great sportsmanship and enjoyed the away round at East’s.

The Canowindra Pythons headed down to Rose Bay on 1st July to play at Easts Rugby Union Club in the annual Bush to Beach round against the Molong Magpies.

The Canowindra Pythons only had 16 players so they stuck together almost everyone played 80 minutes of rugby on a synthetic field.

The boys started the game off well, but with a small hole in the defence Molong were first to score, taking the score to 7-0 in the first few minutes.

The Pythons didn’t let that bring them down. They were quick to get back at Molong with a try scored by Tim Somers, however it unsuccessfully converted taking the score to 7-5.

With only one person on the bench, and a few small injuries between them, Canowindra were on the back burner. Molong took advantage of this and scored a few tries taking the score to 29-5 at half time.

As the Pythons got some rhythm back in the second half, they set up a fantastic try through Molong’s defence up the right hand side to score a second try by Fred Fletcher.

After some good rugby played, and Molong scoring a few more tries the Pythons came back with a third try scored by Carter Dale taking the score to 43-15 halfway through the second half.

Coming down in the second half with the Pythons carrying injuries and no subs, they still tried their absolute best, holding up Molong’s attack. The boys pushed their way down to Molong’s try line one ruck at a time to secure their fourth and final try for the game, closing the game at 55-20.

Although it wasn’t the result we were looking for, the boys enjoyed their game on a synthetic field at the Eastern Suburbs Rugby Club at Woollahra Oval playing against a valuable and commendable club.

Three points and players player went to Carter Dale, two points went to Alex Wood and one point went tom Sam Austin. Pythons won the boat race! The Pythons will take on the Geurie Goats at Geurie on 15th July.
