83 decendants of Ailsa Payten celebrated what would have been her 100th brthday, last weekend.
Over the June Long weekend, the Payten family came together to celebrate what would have been Ailsa Payten’s 100th birthday.
Eighty-three of her direct descendants enjoyed a weekend in Canowindra and by spending money locally were able give back to the town that has provided so much to the family. It was a great tribute to Ailsa to have people travel from across Australia, and even as far as the USA to attend the reunion.
Having spent time in Canowindra as a youth, during holidays with her grandfather TJ Finn at Tralee, Ailsa met her husband, John Payten and married him in 1946. They settled on Alfalfa, a property outside of Canowindra where they had seven children, many of whom still reside in the Canowindra district.
A community minded person, Ailsa helped with school and other community groups. She was a generous, warm-hearted lady who passed away in October 2018 at the age of 95.
The weekend was full of games including a fun run and golf. A main highlight was a caramel cake competition, Alisa’s favourite family celebration recipe. With 17 cakes entered, there was just as much judging as there was baking and eating!
A celebration dinner was held at the Blue Jacket, which was beautifully decorated by Tommy Jeffs. The finale was a music concert in which every family member aged from 2 to 80 participated in, held at St Eddies hall.
The family would like to thank the town of Canowindra for being such wonderful hosts for the weekend.
