As part of Mycology May, artists from across the region are being showcased in a special exhibition entitled “Fine Art Fungi.”
Artworks featuring fungi by 50 local artists exceeded community expectations at the Fine Art Fungi Exhibition. Mid Lachlan Landcare founding member, Andrew Wooldridge said ‘Fine Art Fungi’s opening night was buzzing.’
The show was curated by Mid Lachlan Landcare coordinator, Trudi Refshauge, who gave artists the challenge of responding to fungi photos and other mycology research undertaken by the Landcare group.
“I developed the exhibition in honor of one of Australia’ leading fungi ecologists, Alison Pouliot,” said Trudi.
Pouliot’s visit is associated with Mycology May, a program supported by the Central Tableland’s Local Land Services (CTLLS) and Central Tablelands Landcare Network, and Mid Lachlan Landcare is working in partnership with these organisations.
“Every local artist I spoke to, loved the idea of portraying vibrant and varying impressions of fungi. After gaining the support of art and ceramics artist-teachers, Catherine Bennett and Rebecca Dowling, the entries began steam-rolling in. Between us we were able to attract artists from Weigelli, the Rosnay art community, Cowra Neighbourhood Centre Arts Group, solo ceramicists, painters and photographers from Cowra, Canowindra and beyond,” Trudi continued.
Liz Davis from the CTLLS spoke to the opening night crowd explaining the importance of Mycology May and the launch of Pouliot’s new book Underground Lovers.
The Fine Arts Fungi exhibition is open to the public at Rosnay Rivers Rd Canowindra on weekends in May from 10am – 4pm.
