Back in the day, a useful circulation booster for local newspapers was to go around the local schools on the first day of a new school year and take a photograph of the kindergarten intake.
The Canowindra Star was no exception, and we have been given a large archive of medium-format negatives of photos that were taken by the Star – for the most part with no clue as to the date taken and subject matter.
Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous benefactor, we have acquired a scanner that can cope with medium-format negatives and the result of our first experimental scan is posted here.

Likewise, if you would like to help us preserve our local (50 years +) heritage by taking on the job of scanning, which can be done at home, please contact us to find out how. The only qualification is an innate curiosity as to what is on these negatives and the stories they may unearth and a degree of patience. We supply all the necessary equipment, training and support.
