Our Gal – Kim Roberts

20 April, 2023 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

Kim Roberts (right) pictured with Australian Prime Minister, John Howard during her time in the Royal Australian Navy.

How long have you lived in Canowindra and what do you like about it? I moved here when I was three and left here when I was 18 to join the Royal Australian Navy and returned in 2007 after being injured on a Tour Of Duty. I wanted to raise my kids in Canowindra.

Where did you serve? I served on HMAS Manoora and completed four tours to Iraq. I also was involved in the capture of the Tampa boat and with the gun amnesty on the Solomon Islands to make it a safer place for all.

How long were you in the Navy? I was in the Navy from 2000 until 2007 where I was discharged medically unfit after being injured on my last tour of Iraq.

What did you like most about being in the defence force? I love most the friendships that were formed and that are still very strong today. I can travel around Australia and know I always have a bed to sleep in from the strong friendships that are formed.

Where will you be this ANZAC Day? I will be attending the local march in Canowindra with my children and then heading to Eugowra for the ANZAC Memorial Harness Race.
