Volunteers and staff members at the Canowindra Connections Centre with just some of the items on offer to the people of Canowinda.
Canowindra Connections Centre is a joint initiative of the combined Uniting and Anglican Churches and was officially opened on 26th November, 2022. The purpose of the centre is to provide an holistic approach to community wellbeing.
The centre was recently renovated to incorporate community events, activities and host church services.
The focus of the centre is to provide activities or programs to support lonely older people, families doing it tough and young people with mental health issues. The centre also has a community garden which provides a safe and fun space to support the community throughout life’s journey.
The Canowindra Connections Centre building was originally funded by the sale of unused church buildings and is now a working example of a social enterprise. It is believed to be the first of its kind in the Central West, if not NSW.
Everyone from individuals to groups, are encouraged to access the centre’s services. Many organisations have already started to use the facilities to host classes and services, such as Latin Fit. If you would like to book the centre feel free to contact Jacquie Dredge, the facilities coordinator.
One of the main services on offer at the Canowindra Connections Centre is the weekly FoodBasket, which everyone is now welcome to access to curb some of the rising cost of living expenses.
The community garden will also be more than just a vegetable garden, with workshops such as garlic planting with Vele from Garlic Kingdom Australia coming up over the next few months.
