Our Bloke – Trevor George Hoye

23 February, 2023 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

Where were you born? I was born in Parkes but grew up in Peak Hill.

Do you have a nickname? I have plenty, Legs, bowlang and Jibby – short for jibblet.

Which accomplishment are you most proud of? When I was a kid, I was a long-distance runner. I was also a reasonably successful jockey. I always tried to look after the battlers in horse riding.

What moment in history is most memorable to you? When I was 11 years old I remember watching the moon landing at school. That was the same year Peak Hill had its 75th year celebrations. It was a big celebration with floats and a 10.5 mile race. The race was where my running skills were picked up by the mayor in town who helped find a passion for athletics. I finished that race in 81 minutes and went on to compete for Dubbo in athletics.

What is your single best piece of advice? Be good to your mother

Greatest risk you have taken? I was working in the underground mines making the ceilings safe. Never knowing if the ceiling would cave in at any minute.

If you had $10,000 to spend, how would you spend it? Wisely! But maybe go on a cruise or two.

What makes you happy? I am always happy. I am always joking around, laughing or making everyone else laugh.
