Superb Parrot
The Superb Parrot is listed as vulnerable in NSW. They usually arrive in spring to breed but we are increasingly hearing of populations that are staying in the Cowra region, year-round.
Did you know scattered paddock trees are critical to the Superb Parrot’s survival?
Mid Lachlan Landcare has secured funding through the NSW Government’s Saving our Species (SoS) program to assist with the planting of new paddock trees, protecting established old trees, creating, restoring, protecting and improving habitat and connectivity for the Superb Parrot.
This Mid Lachlan Landcare project will subsidise 70% of the cost of a roll of tree guard mesh and the star pickets needed to make the guards or provide up to $750 towards fencing off an existing paddock tree or cluster of trees.
Each mesh roll produces 12-13 tree guards. There will be a maximum of two mesh rolls per landholder. This may be reduced to one roll if the project is oversubscribed. Construction and installation of the tree guards plus planting tube stock trees or fencing existing trees should be completed by the landholder by 30th June 2023.
Previous participants are encouraged to apply. Please note priority will be given to sites of known or recorded Superb Parrot sightings and where planted trees connect existing paddock trees and/or patches of woodland.
Paddock trees must be planted a maximum of 30m apart. Fencing of existing trees must be a minimum of 30 x 30m.
