NSW Nationals Upper House MP Sam Farraway and NSW Nationals Candidate for Orange Tony Mileto join committee members in receiving the good news.
Canowindra Historical Society and Museum are set to go digital and receive a facelift after funding was secured through the National Governments Creative Capital Program.
NSW Nationals Upper House MP Sam Farraway recently visited the Canowindra Historical Society and Museum to announce that the committee has secured more than $8,350 from the NSW Liberal and National Government’s Creative Capital Program.
Mr Farraway said the funding would pay dividends to the community of Canowindra by delivering a much-needed upgrade to the 1830s vertical slab hut and to digitilise a years of newspaper articles from the 1960s.
“This investment will allow the society to repair and maintain the historical building and newspapers that hold major cultural significance to the area,” Mr Farraway said.
“One building was originally erected on the property ‘Mooroonbin’, originally run by a pioneer of the region John Grant. This funding will ensure this piece of 1830s history is preserved for the town and next generation of youngsters to enjoy.
“Additionally, with a decade of 1960s Canowindra Star newspapers on hand, the society will be able to archive the articles online to ensure that history is secured for years to come.
“I welcome this investment by the NSW Liberal and Nationals Government as it is projects like this that bring people to our region, allowing visitors to experience the sights, sounds and history of the Orange Electorate,” said Mr Farraway
