Public Health Alert – Viral Gastroenteritis On The Rise: People in NSW are encouraged to stay on alert for symptoms of gastroenteritis, with testing and hospital data showing a significant rise in cases in recent weeks across the state. Rotavirus is one common cause of viral gastroenteritis and can be particularly severe in young children. In the first two weeks of 2023, 197 cases of rotavirus were identified, compared with about 40 cases during the same period usually. Director of NSW Health’s One Health branch Keira Glasgow said reducing the spread of gastro before schools returned in the next few weeks is important.
Be On The Lookout For Fireweed: Landholders across the Central West are asked to keep an eye out for Fireweed (Senecio madagascariensis) — a weed of national significance. The weed has recently been found in the Warrumbungle Shire Council and Dubbo Regional Council areas. It invades pastures and disturbed areas, reduces productivity, is poisonous to livestock, can cause death and is difficult to control. It must not be sold anywhere in NSW.

Flood Affected Chemical Collection: To assist farmers and other agricultural and veterinary chemical users in the Cabonne region that have been impacted by recent flooding, Agsafe, in collaboration with the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA), is holding an extra ChemClear run to collect damaged or affected chemicals in the region. Registrations close on Sunday, 12th February 2023. The ChemClear run will commence after this date with registrants being contacted with an indicative collection date.
