These past few weeks have been one in which we have experienced, not only loss and devastation but also the goodness of God shown through the many people who have rallied around with offers of help in so many ways. We are very thankful to you all.
I, personally have been blown away by the many offers of help that have come to me from people outside our community. Offers of practical help, money, prayers and donations of goods. So much that it has felt overwhelming!
A verse from the Bible in Psalm 46 says, ‘God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in times of trouble’. The Psalm goes on to say that we are not to fear! How hard it is when we face troubles not to be afraid. Yet God is our strength and refuge and help. Our God is a practical God, giving us help and strength as we recover from floods, as we grieve the loss of friends, possessions, livelihoods, and homes.
On Saturday 26th November we opened the new Connections Centre within the Uniting Church in Blatchford Street. This centre aims to provide help through our established Foodbasket program on Fridays and other service providers who will use the facilities.
Aid, in the form of vouchers and gift cards is available through All Saints Anglican Church and Peace Memorial Uniting Church. Our God loves and saves.
