Members of the Canowindra RSL Sub-Branch at the Remembrance Day commemoration were Ian McIlvayne, Kim Roberts, Adam Sunderland, ???, Chrstine McIlvayne and Mike Harrison.
Canowindra RSL Sub-Branch In conjunction with Canowindra High School, held a Remembrance Day service and wreath laying on Friday, 11th November.
Remembrance Day marks the day which World War One ended at 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month, in 1918. A period of silence is held at 11am across the country and memorial services are held.
Student representatives from Canowindra High School, St Edwards Primary School and Canowindra Public School laid wreaths and flowers in commemoration of all who have served our country.
Amongst the crowd were members of the Australian Defence Force, both past and present serving members.
Also in attendance were visitors to Canowindra and people who had come to see Canowindra’s Remembrance Day ceremony as they had been told it was a beautiful small ceremony.
“A highlight of the service was three returned servicemen who had planned their trip to Canberra via Canowindra specifically to attend the service held at Canowindra,” said Christine McIlvayne, President Canowindra RSL Sub Branch.
“It was beautiful to see all the school children coming to reflect and the out of town people, not passing by but stopping to attend the service in Canowindra. The sacrifice past and present have endured will never be taken for granted or forgotten,” said local returned servicewoman,Kim Roberts.
Canowindra RSL sub-branch conducts two services throughout the year, ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day, and lay wreaths on significant military occasions. There are around 20 local members who look after returned servicemen, women and their families.
