New Canowindra SES Commander, Owen Lloyd.
Canowindra SES officiated Owen Lloyd to Unit Commander recently after a commendable 5 years of service to the Unit.
As Commander, Owen Lloyd is working towards creating a unit that encourages teamwork, appreciation of participants skills and attributes and increasing team member capacities.
With the recent rain events and heading into storm season the Canowindra SES unit is looking to recruit more members.
“You don’t need to have any qualifications, certificates or prior experience, we support you to do all of those when you join. We’re looking for people who want to help others, learn new skills and have fun along the way. There are serious times yes, but mostly we are all about encouraging each other.
I am proud of all my current members past and present who make the Canowindra Unit what it is today.”
With the appointment of the new Commander, Owen has changed the format on how the unit operates.
The rebuilding of the unit has a family friendly approach, which will hopefully encourage more member involvement.
By making meetings fortnightly and alternating between Monday Evenings and Sunday Afternoons, Owen hopes that participants will find the more flexible approach easier to attend.
“Our Sunday afternoon training is all about family and we encourage members to come along, bring their families and join us for a sausage sizzle.”
