Our Gal – Joanna Balcombe

29 September, 2022 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

Joanna Balcombe

How long have you lived in Canowindra and what do you like most about it? I’ve lived in Canowindra my whole life; however, I attend university at Wagga Wagga. I like the close-knit community with many opportunities.

How are you involved in your local community? I have attended primary and high school in Canowindra. I help at many local shows and work locally during my university holidays.

Can you tell us what it is like being involved in the Young Rural Woman program? Being a part of the Young Rural Women competition entails being involved on show day, sashing competitions and assisting to judge the Jillaroo and Jackaroo competitions.

Why did you decide to become involved? It’s great to be involved as a young person within the local community to be able to assist and have input in local events. I hope to be someone in the community for girls to look up to.

If you could improve one thing in our community, what would it be? If I could improve one thing in our community, it would be the rain at the moment! However, more community involvement in the show would be great.

Where do you work or what are you hoping to do in the future? I’m currently studying an ag degree at uni, however over summer I have been working at GrainCorp at Nyrang Creek.
