The Canowindra Tigers Youth League Team for 2022.
The Canowindra Tigers went one step closer to reach their goal of unfinished business after a victory against Trundle 23-12 after scores were locked at 12 all at full time.
The Tigers scored early through Tim Roberts in the 4th minute to lead 4-0. Trundle hit back with a try after repeat sets to lead 6-4. Trundle scored again through their forward charges and held a good lead of 12-4 at the break.
Twenty minutes into the second half the Tigers scored through a backline movement for Nick Curtis in the corner and Mathews failed to convert Trundle hold onto 12-8 lead. With seconds on the clock Jayden Brown scored in the corner to lock up the scores at 12-12. The conversion would seal a win from the sideline but it wasn’t to be.
The Tigers ran the ball through Brown down the blind side who beat 3 of 4 defenders to score which was converted by Mathews now 18-12 Tigers. A great field goal by Mathews gave the Tigers some breathing space at 19-12.
Frazer Ryder then ran onto a ball in the centres and sliced through to run 40 metres to seal the game with a try final result 23-12.
First grade have a well earned rest this week before they play the final in Canowindra against the winner of Manildra and Peak Hill.
The Canowindra League Tag girls were beaten by Condobolin 36-6 last Saturday bringing an end to their season. Condobolin scored first and led 4-0 early and the Tigeresses had some chances but failed to convert on the scoreboard.
Condobolin scored two more tries to lead 16-0. Erin Wise scored a try from a kick and was converted by Charlie Burling to narrow the lead to 22-6. From there Condobolin struck again to go to a 28-6 lead midway through the second half and went on to score two late tries in the closing stages.
The Canowindra Youth League side forged their way into the next round of semi-finals against Cargo. With the best side put to paper this week it looked promising for the young Tigers which resulted in a grinding win 20 points to 14.
Cargo drew first blood with a try early to lead 6-0. Tigers hung in and opportunities came their way when attacking, with Aeryc Sansum using his ball skills-to speed through a hole and scored the first try for the Tigers score now 6-4.
Shortly after the Tigers controlling the play Hayden Hajje chipped over for Connor Monroe to score out wide and Cameron Wheeler to convert to lead 10-6.
The Tigers gained the momentum and good lead up work it was sent wide for Bailey Kennedy to score which was converted score now 16-10.
Cargo was on the attack with seconds left but dropped the ball and Conor Monroe sped 40 metres to score and seal the win.
The Youth League Tigers play Condobolin next Sunday at Manildra at 10am.
