Last Thursday 11th August 2022 girls from Year 10 at Canowindra High School had the opportunity to engage with various emergency services agencies via the Girls on Fire program.
This program is currently touring the Central West and Canowindra High School was really lucky to get a slot due to a cancellation. The Girls on Fire program believe that every young girl has a spark within, and if ignited, can see them change their life, their community and how they view themselves in a profound way.
The Year 10 participants got to engage in practical activities including a strenuous fitness test, simulated smoke-filled environment navigation, bowling and rolling hoses, setting and extinguishing controlled fires, and operating the truck pumps and hoses.
All the Year 10 girls had a great day and the coordinators from the Girls on Fire program were really impressed with their attitude, quick learning and competitiveness.
The Year 10 students should be congratulated as they displayed maturity and attention to detail throughout the Girls on Fire program.
Canowindra High School would like to thank the Girls on Fire program organisers as well as the Moorbel Rural Fire Service for creating an exciting day and hopefully motivating a few of the Year 10 students into volunteering for this vital community service.
