The Tigers had a big day at Eugowra last Sunday winning all three grades. First Grade won 72-14, League Tag won 28-0 and Youth League won 26-22.
In the First Grade encounter the score didn’t really indicate the toughness of the game. Eugowra started strong early and being Snowy Jones’ last game for them they were keen to put on a good display. It took 10 minutes before the Tigers gained the advantage and started to wear down Eugowra’s defence.
The Tigers finally broke through with a powerful run from George Lolo pushing off defenders sprinting 40m to score the first try and Canowindra had a 4-0 lead.
This was the first of 14 tries from the Tigers but most of them were in the second half. The Tigers led 22-2 at the break and the message was to complete and let the ball do the work.
George LoLo started the second stanza the same as the first and constantly caused problems for Eugowra’s defence. The Tigers were able to capitalise with tries on the end of his runs.
Ronnie Lawrence found a lot of space and at times looked like a five eight more than a lock with his ball skills mesmerising the defence, finally scoring by speeding through a hole in Eugowra’s defence.
Lawrence was ably supported by his forward pack running in pairs making many metres and the backs were able to show their ability to finish movements to score.
Try scorers were George Lolo, Nathan Whatman, Tim Roberts 2 each, Jayden Brown, Dan Middleton, Luke Watt, Danny Mathews, Joey Carmen, Aaron Earsman, Lewis Dwyer 1 each. Nick Barlow 3 goals and Danny Mathews 5 goals. Players player went to George Lolo.
This was a great team performance and the Tigers are in good form to take on competition leaders Manildra this Sunday at Tom Clyburn Oval.
