Arts Minister Enjoys Omega Ensemble

It was an enjoyable afternoon at All Saint’s Anglican Church last Sunday when the Omega Ensemble performed for an excited crowd in Canowindra that packed into the local church.

The Omega Ensemble were in Canowindra as part of their Music in the Regions Tour which also included visits to Forbes and Parkes over the past week.

The Winter Regional Tour has seen the Omega Ensemble perform a high-energy program, from Mozart’s cherished Clarinet Quintet to the world premiere of a new contemporary Australian work by Australian composer Carl Vine.

Omega Ensemble principal musicians appearing in Canowindra last weekend included: David Rowden, clarinet; Peter Clark, violin; Neil Thompson, viola; and Paul Stender, cello.

Ben Franklin, NSW Government Minister for the Arts was also in Canowindra to watch the performance last Sunday.

“Music in the Regions is a brilliant state government funded initiative which takes some of the best musicians in the nation into country towns across the state,” said Mr Franklin. 

“They play concerts, do workshops and lead masterclasses for the local community,” continued Mr Franklin.

“On Sunday I had the privilege of seeing the extraordinary Omega Ensemble perform in Canowindra. As always, they were spectacular, and the packed audience in the Canowindra Anglican Church agreed!” Mr Franklin said. 

“This is such an innovative program, ensuring that people across NSW have access to the best cultural offerings no matter where they live,” concluded Mr Franklin. 

The Omega Ensemble and Music in the Regions organisers would like to thank the Minister for the Arts, Ben Franklin and the NSW Government’s support and kind words.

“We were delighted to host you and all our special guests and wonderful audience in Canowindra last Sunday, in partnership with Canowindra Fine Music. An extra special thanks to the Canowindra CWA who put on a delicious Devonshire Tea after Omega Ensemble’s brilliant performance,” said the organisers.
