The Art Mentoring Course in Canowindra began five years ago, started by local artist Sue Hodge.
The local Art Gallery Committee, with the financial backing of an organisation called The Sally Foundation, saw the need for after school tutoring in art.
Sue was very happy to teach an art course and this year has seen yet another successful course completed with local students.
The culmination of the students work will occur on the 22nd July 2022 with 52 pieces of the students art on display in the local Art Gallery in Gaskill Street.
Sue says the highlight this year was to see the individual styles come out in the students.
“We have also had three extension students who were able to choose their own projects every week. One of which – Jonty Bullock has been in the course every year since it started,” said Sue.
The other students received lessons in perspective, composition, colour theory, still life, landscapes and all the other different mediums.
“It was a great atmosphere with some of the students really getting lost in their work, humming or singing as they created art,” Sue said.
“I realised this year that more than ever the students need an escape. With the stress of Covid, and the pressure to perform at school I did want the students to relax and enjoy themselves,” continued Sue.
“Yes, there were some who wanted to achieve perfect works but I hope that they didn’t feel that pressure from me,” said Sue.
