Tiger Go Down To Manildra

14 July, 2022 By Barry Traves

This was the top of the table clash and Manildra with a try in the dying minutes got the win 20-18. The Tigers scored first when Brown sent a wide ball to Frazer to score. Manildra scored their first try to lead 6-4. It was a gutsy effort from the Canowindra Tigers reduced to 12 men in the 20th minute. Manildra scored their second try to stretch the score to 12-4 catching the Tigers short of numbers out wide.

Nick Barlow then hit the line with purpose and scored and converted, Tigers only trail by 2 points. The Tigers even it up 12 all from a penalty kick on half time.

The game had plenty of intensity from the start and continued through the second half. The Tigers were playing the better footy and from a loose pass James Dine put his foot to the ball and Manildra’s defence missed the ball and Lewis Dywer scored and Barlow converted 18-12 to the Tigers.

A field goal attempt went astray which would give them a 7 point lead but Manildra worked their way upfield and scored but failed to convert the Tigers lead 18-16.

The Tigers made some errors in the dying minutes and gave Manildra more ball and from a soft penalty gave Manildra good field position and Manildra swung the ball wide to score in the corner despite the covering tackle of Frazer which it looked like he may have done enough to stop the grounding.

With less than 2 minutes on the clock Manildra held possession to take the win. All the Tigers players are to be congratulated for their courage. This week the Tigers are at home on Sunday against Condobolin. Players player went to Nick Barlow.

The League Tag girls put on a very entertaining game starting well to lead early. Manildra hit back with a try and went try to try for some time.

The Tigresses put everything into the second half and with some good ball work found holes through Manildra’s defence to score and narrow the gap to 6. Manildra scored a late try to seal the game 36-26. Players player went to Jamie Amos.

The Youth League side played at Eugowra on Saturday and this was a complete reversal of form from the previous week. The young Tigers improved in the second half holding Eugowra to 10 points and scoring a try themselves. Final score was 40-6 to Eugowra.
