Pythons Go Down To Undefeated Blayney

7 July, 2022 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

The mighty Pythons showed up with the biggest hearts last Saturday against the Blayney Rams. Although the boys didn’t get a win, going down 29-8 against the undefeated team in the Oilsplus Cup. The boys showed up on the most cold, windy, miserable day with only 15 players.

In the first 5 minutes the Pythons got a penalty for an offside, Sam Austin took a kick and Pythons were up 3-0 for the first 15 minutes. Blayney were quick to respond with a try and a conversion taking the score to 7-3. The boys kept Blayney on their toes in the mud with ball stealing, pilfering, and were also solid at ruck time

Through the showers of rain, the big Conor Lamond snuck through Blayney’s defence and scored a try. Half time was just around the corner with the score being 17-8. The boys had a quick half time to recoup and come back for the second half.

Blayney in the second half came out strong but the boys kept them back on their line with keeping the score 17-8 for the next 20 minutes.

After a hard battle down the field Blayney scored a try bringing the score to 24-8. The boys never gave up especially in the conditions of the game and kept Blayney out until the last 10 minutes with one more try getting through.

After a long 80 minutes and a huge battle taking on the top of the ladder the game ended at 29-8. The Pythons should be proud of themselves playing a full 80 minutes with no subs and only going down 21 points! Three points and players player went to James Watson, two points went to Angus Fisher, one point went to Dan Thomas and Luke Byrnes

Head down to Tom Clyburn Oval this Saturday at 2pm for Sponsors and Past Players Day to watch the Pythons take on the Coonabarabran Kookaburras.
