The Canowindra Services Club Hall was decorated beautifully for Saturday night’s Centenary Dinner Dance for the Canowindra Soldiers Memorial Hospital.
Around 160 people attended the event to celebrate the milestone of the local Hospital. The past week has been a big week for the Hospital with a morning tea held last Tuesday and the dinner dance on Saturday, an exact replica of what happened 100 years ago when the Hospital was first opened in 1922.
Speeches were made by Geoffrey Beath Chairperson of the Health Council, Jennifer Wythes from the Canowindra Historical Society and Museum and Health Services Manager Janice Rumph. A cheque was also presented to the Hospital from the Masonic Lodge for the purchase of new equipment.
Local nurse Amara Flannery was the winner of a week-long fun competition at the Hospital for being able to make the tightest bed with the best hospital corners.
It is incredible that it has been more than 100 years since the community and Government worked together to provide funds to construct the hospital, with the World War One memorial tower and honour boards in the foyer of the hospital.
Iconic band “Trouble with Johnny” had the dance floor packed in no time with hit after hit bringing the crowd out of their chairs for a dance.
Canowindra Soldiers Memorial Hospital and Canowindra Health Centre staff should be congratulated on their efforts in organising such an enjoyable event for the Canowindra community.
