Last Sunday the Sportsman’s Luncheon at the Canowindra Services Club was the first of many functions to support Royce Simmons before his Big Walk started to raise awareness for dementia which he was diagnosed with 12 months ago .
A good crowd of around 100 people attended the luncheon at the Canowindra Services Club and were entertained by guest speakers including former players from Penrith Panthers rugby league club who have also represented Australia, Paul Dunn, Craig Gower, Royce himself and local league legend Ian “Bunda” Breen.
Local musicians, Henry Duguid and Macy Boland then wowed the audience with their musical talent.
Thanks must go to those for the donations of footy jerseys that were auctioned off by the entertaining Craig Carpenter.
Special thanks must also go to John Watson and Tommy Jeffs for supplying accommodation for the guests, Canowindra Services Club, Canowindra Senior and Junior Rugby League Clubs and the Big Walk steering committee.
The Big Walk started in Gooloogong on Tuesday 17th May and will finish in Penrith on 26th May with the team walking 300kms in total.
