The CWA of NSW turns 100 this year, and to mark this historic occasion seven members of the Canowindra branch travelled to Sydney last week for the Centenary Conference.
The Canowindra participants were part of the 33 members from the Central Western Group.
The conference was officially opened by NSW Governor, Her Excellency The Honorable Margaret Beasley AO QC, and attended by over 800 members from across the state of NSW.
An inspiring address from Layne Beachley AO had all on the edge of their seats. What an inspiring person, who challenged on every level to become a 7 times World Surfing Champion.
A highlight for all was the Moorambilla singers who celebrate a life of possibility by developing the young leaders of tomorrow. They were magical.
During the course of the week a cheque for $21,700 was presented to Prof Pradeep Tanwar, University of Newcastle for research into Ovarian Cancer. The CWA will continue to raise funds for this research during 2022.
Motions passed at conference included such things as research into fruit fly management, Country of Origin labelling, responsibility for Crown Lands in regard to boundary fencing, assistance for women suffering from Endometriosis for medical imaging and medication costs, affordable housing, safety of residents in public housing clusters, improved obstetric services in rural areas, improved education and testing for caravan owners and many more.
Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons AO AFSM from Resilience NSW was more than inspirational in his hour long address. He fielded many questions from members, and was both open and challenging in his answers.
Members also had lots of fun dining out together and to top it off the Gala Dinner at Royal Randwick Race Course, where the Australian Army Band provided great music to dance the night away was amazing. A few sore feet afterwards too.
