Royce’s Big Walk

Penrith Panthers’ favourite son Royce Simmons recently has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Typically of the man known only as ‘Simmo’, the footy legend wants to help enhance the lives of everyone impacted by dementia.

The inaugural Royce’s Big Walk will depart from his hometown of Gooloogong on Tuesday 17th May.

After a journey of almost 300km, Royce plans to cross the finish line at BlueBet Stadium in Penrith on Friday 27th May, just in time for kick-off in the Panthers NRL game against North Queensland Cowboys.

On Sunday 15th May the Canowindra Tigers Rugby League Football Club will hold a Sportsman’s Luncheon at the Canowindra Services Club in support of the walk.

Guest speakers on the day include the man himself Royce Simmons, former NRL players Paul Dunn, Craig Gower, Tony Butterfield and local legend Ian ‘Bunda’ Breen.

On Monday 16th May there will be a barefoot bowls event held at Gooloogong Bowls Club from 6pm. Day 1 of the walk on Tuesday 17th May will be a 38km walk from Gooloogong to Cowra.

All donations will support innovative Australian dementia research to:
• Better understand the causes of dementia
• Develop strategies to reduce dementia risk and slow the progression of the disease
• Provide accurate and timely diagnoses
• Improve treatment and care options for people living with dementia
• Find a cure
