Meg Austin in Broken Hill where she is currently working as a midwife.
Canowindra local, Meg Austin has been chosen as an RM Williams RAS Rural Achiever Finalist for 2022.
Meg was born and bred in Canowindra, attended St Edwards Primary School and Canowindra High School being awarded Vice Captain of Canowindra High in 2016.
Meg has represented Canowindra as a State Finalist at The Sydney Royal Easter Show Showgirl competition in 2016/17 and has been very involved in the community and she loves her hometown of Canowindra.
The R.M. Williams Rural Achiever Award is a state-wide leadership program run by the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW to recognise future young leaders who are working hard to make a significant contribution to their local community and to rural Australia.
The program promotes and facilitates unique agricultural industry networking opportunities with rural leaders and other like-minded individuals through RAS and ASC connections and functions during the Sydney Royal Easter Show.
Meg has just completed her graduate year as a registered midwife in Broken Hill. Meg’s work as a midwife has highlighted for her the disparity between metropolitan and regional health facilities and the need for quality healthcare no matter where you live, and this has driven Meg to take on more studies to play an active and much needed role in the vital area of women’s health.
Meg believes belonging to a community and working side by side with the members is of the most benefit to all and that a strong leader leads from within and inspires others to grow.
Meg found out about the award through the Canowindra Show Society, which she has been actively involved in for the past five years as a steward of the Showgirl program.
“It’s a privilege to be a finalist and I am excited to experience the Sydney Royal Easter Show and have the opportunity to advocate and represent rural NSW and rural NSW health practitioners,” said Meg.
