Light’s On At The Oval

17 February, 2022 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

Back in 2020 seven projects that were proposed by Cabonne Shire Council and community groups received grants under the Federal Governments Round 4 of the Building Better Regions Fund. One of these projects was a lighting upgrade for Tom Clyburn Oval.

The new light towers for the lighting upgrade at Tom Clyburn Oval have now arrived in town with the project to be completed by the end of March 2022.

The upgrade will include improved light towers at the bottom oval, located within the sporting and recreation precinct of Canowindra, which incorporates the fitness path, skate park, tennis and netball/basketball courts.

“This lighting upgrade will be a real game changer for sport in Canowindra and will ease the congestion for the Rugby League and Rugby Union teams with playing night games now an option for each club,” said Councillor Andrew Pull.

“In the past referees have refused to allow night games to be played at Canowindra due to the bad lighting,” said Mr Pull.

“The lighting system will use new technology being run by an App on your phone instead of just flicking a switch,” continued Clr Pull.

There has been a lot of work going on at the Canowindra Sporting Complex recently getting ready for the new lighting towers and also the new facilities that will be built at a later date, including new change rooms.

The power system has been upgraded from 6 metres to 1 metre which will save thousands of dollars each year. There has also been power bollards installed around the ground so that when large scale events are held at the complex generators will not be needed.
