We have made it! Through all the challenges in business and community, restrictions and exemptions, we have pulled together, supported each other and got there.
We get in, have a go, and help each other, this was evident over the last few weeks during the flash flooding that occurred in Canowindra. I was a proud Canowindran when I witnessed friends and family chipping in to assist businesses which suffered from the extreme weather.
Canowindra has never been in a better position, our real estate is in hot demand, prices are moving up, people not from around here want what we have. Young families are moving in like never before all bringing new skills and enthusiasm. I am pleased that more and more people call Canowindra home.
Canowindra has benefitted from a council team which is unprecedented in their support for us, there has been $1,000,000 granted for the main street upgrade, and there is more to come with health precinct upgrades, and strategic planning. It’s an exciting time to be living in Canowindra.
If there is one thing I wish I could change, that would be some of the interaction on social media regarding some of the issues in Canowindra. I personally have been targeted in the past and it doesn’t bode well for future leaders in our community. Why would anyone put their hand up to try and make a difference? This is a problem and definitely does not demonstrate the Canowindra community in the best light.
To the members and future members of the Canowindra Business and Progress Association, I would like to thank all of you for your support in light of this.
Here we are, in the festive season for yet another year. Give yourselves a big pat on the back, thank your community leaders when you see them next. Because they thank you for your efforts, for staying open when restrictions were imposed, for shopping local, popping in to see a friend living on their own, encouraging others to get vaccinated, and for being the best home school you can be.
One of my favourite Latin phrases is ‘Palma Merenti’ – the reward to the one who earns it. Not only does this demonstrate that working towards goals is rewarding, but it provides the hope that one will be rewarded by working towards our goals.
In light of this, I wish you all the happiest and merriest of festive seasons, I hope that you all have the opportunity to spend time with family and friends. That you have time to reflect, and give yourselves a pat on the back for all the good work you have done – you deserve it!
