Wine, Women And Art

4 November, 2021 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

Sue Hodge provides instruction to workshop participants.

On a beautiful sunny afternoon, overlooking the vibrantly green flourishing Canowindra valley, a group of eight enthusiastic women had gathered, wine was uncorked and wonderful charcuterie platters were served. The art experience had commenced.

Kristy Molliy’s idea of a backyard art workshop blossomed when talking to her friend professional artist Sue Hodge. Kristy’s own backyard, among the vines of Rosnay Organic farms, has the ideal view of the Nangar National Park.

“With the silhouette of Mt Nangar on the horizon, a homestead in the midground and the lovely texture of olive trees in the foreground – it’s a perfect scene,” said Sue.

Sue gave a traditional landscape painting lesson, involving some of the basic guidelines of art such as perspective, composition and colour management. The participants experimented with different effects you can get using different brushes and different paints.

The ladies’ experience ranged from complete newbies to dabblers in art. Sue said she was surprised at how intentional everyone was even after a few wines. “Eight great paintings were produced,” says Sue.

She went on to say “What was good was how diverse everyone’s styles were. The wind was a bit of a challenge but we overcame that and a great afternoon was had by all.” Sue intends to do more workshops like this one in the future.
